"As you plan for your shopping trips this holiday season, the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office would like to offer a few tips to make sure that you and your family stay safe" - Sheriff Mark A. Schrader
10 Tips for making your holiday shopping safer.

1: Safety in numbers, don't shop alone

2: Have your keys in hand and ready before you get to your car.

3: Be aware of your surroundings

4: Before leaving your car in the parking lot, make sure all valuable items are stored out of sight.

5: If you take purchases out to your car and plan to continue shopping, its a good idea to move your car to a different parking spot. Just in case some one is watching to see when you leave your car to go back inside.

6: Have a plan and stay focused when you leave the store and travel back to your car. Avoid wandering in the parking lot.

7: Avoid texting while walking to and from your destinations.  This could prevent accidents, ex. walking into someone or walking out into traffic.

8: Get rest before traveling and shopping

9: At night, check the back seats of your car before entering

10: Make sure cell phones and electronic communication devices are charged, so that in the event of an emergency you will have a means of communication.

Again, these are just a few safety tips to have in mind while shopping and traveling this holiday season. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving -
